Sitcks on Ice

I'm please to report that my lack of blogging lately has been due to working a fair bit and all the new friends I've made.

Leena- My first friend and D-Block buddy. Top chick.
Hanna- We don't really talk much and then we laugh for 10 minutes & chain smoke & laugh.
Johno- He's a DJ and is training my at the gym.
Charlotte & Lizzie- Girls from work, funny bitches.
Tom & Ryan- Did orientation with these boys, we looooveee Ben...NOT!
& Kate- Serves me and Hanna our beverages whilst we chain smoke!

So thats pretty much the people i've been spending my time with. They are saving me from my roommate. Tonight all of us are going out and Johno will be DJ-ing so we'll get to find out if he's any good. Its good to hangout with a new group of people who are different from my friends back home, although its making me miss my best friends more:(

After my snake encounter, Hanna decided it could've just been a stick, that ran into the bushes...I replied with
TOM:"yeah, a stick on ice"(meaning the drug)
HANNA:" what does a stick on ice do on hamilton island? ohhhhh i'm cold."

It probably isn't that funny to anyone else but its our new on-going joke.

OTHER UPDATES:

-Started working at Popeyes(Fish and Chip Shop) on top of the Bakery, its fun as.
-Been going to the gym nearly everyday.
-Mum has booked flights home in September!

Snake Encounter

I recieved the best motivation to join the sports club(gym) today.
Whilst running up one of the many tedious hamilton island hills a snake decided to slither right under my legs. It was a situation that would have been hilarious to onlookers however considering it was me I just jumped up and down to avoid contact and proceded up the hill in record time.

vandalism

Vandalism, the band are playing on the island tonight. There not a band i really like but i don't know them well enough to say i don't like them so i think i'll go check them out. There's not much else to do tonight and i feel like drinking. My only mission for the rest of my afternoon is to find someone to go/pre-drink with as the friends i have made here are either away or going over to Airlie Beach for the night which i can't do as i'm working tomorrow.(I'll let you know how that goes)

I'm suprised by how much i'm enjoying work. People take for granted how much more enjoyable work is when the managers and people you work with are easy to get along and better still fun to work with. There's a great mix of people, some serious but still friendly and some who are just fun to be around. It seems like everyone brings just the right about of each personalitly trait to work and its awesome.

My room-mate is STILL driving me bonkers. I've started smoking again(DAMN IT) and i find myself smoking more when he's home just to get out of the room to some peace and quiet.

EXAMPLE SCENARIO:
We watch neighbours every night because we're both home and i can actually have almost half an hour of silence, apart from ad breaks. We missed thursday nights episode for some reason and he started recapping what had happened wednesday night for me even though i told him THREE times during his recap that i had been in the same room as him watching the same episode.

I feel bad for him because he has no concept of personal space. If i'm watching a DVD with my earphones in or trying to sleep he will continue to talk to me in his droning, slow manner.

END//

I'm so impressed with my tolerance level up here.

Planning to come home for a few(3) days early September.
Brigitte will be leaving the country soon.
Weather is amazing.
I've been exercising everyday for the last 4 days.
Spoke to Meagz last night.
Life is good.

fb frustration

facebook is annoying me to no end lately.
as my only access to the internet is via the free staff internet at work, which is extremely slow, it annoys me to see people who constantly update or quizz about things i really don't care for.
i've tried deleting people i don't particularily care about but there still seems to be too much nonsense. for example, today i logged on to see that there was an update from Brigitte. I was excited because news about people i really care about is good, only to find dissapointment when i had to scroll down about 8 times to find something else interesting. when your on a computer as annoying as these ones; its not fun.

i guess i'll have to do another cull of people, being more picky this time.

I don't mean to stereotype but...

I was late for work yesterday(Saturday) morning.
My superviser came and got me out of bed!
In the end I was only 20 mins late so it wasn't that bad.

It seems the French tourists on the Island have a nack for complaining about our croissants. Ok, if you want a perfect FRENCH croissant, go to a french Bakery or better yet, back to France. I'm sure you'll find one their.

Also I don't care what statistics say, American's are still the best fatties.

"I'll do a beef pie, a sausage roll, a pepper pie and 2 jam dounuts....what do you want hunny?"

Yes a yankee bloke had all that!

Work was good today, I got there early and finished all my jobs in time!
I have the next two days off so I might head to this Marina days thing. I'm not exactly sure what it is(apart from it involves drinking at the Marina) but i'll let you know.

John

So i got cut off last time because a massive flood of people entered the staff 'lounge'. By lounge they mean one couch and a whole bunch of desks and computers. Its pretty sweet though; free internet so you can't go wrong.

I've nearly finished a week at my new job. I'm making a few silly mistakes but other than that i'm doing ok. My name badge still reads 'John' as mine isn't done yet. I'm working all weekend which will be good because I'm saving money for Europe next year with Meagz.

My room mate is still driving me insane. He talks too slow and I lose concentration easily...especially when he's filling me on his favourite TV show; Merlin. Mates at work tell me I can change but I'm going to stick it out for a bit longer.

Briggs has been messaging me on facebook nearly everyday which is good because I'm starting to miss everyone and its good to keep updates. I'm really impressed with a lot of people actually, those who I thought wouldn't stay in touch have proved me wrong...and visa versa in some cases.

It was awesome to hear from Brigitte recently. I'm getting really excited for her about America. The television guide is one of the major excitements for both of us. Its great to have such a close friend who I don't have to message every single day. I love it how we share genuine excitment for each other as well. She was pumped to hear about my job ect.

I've been trying to write every day but I hate doing it in a full computer room, its awkward because people next to me can read everything due to big computer screens.

The irony of my last statement is fierce. I'm happy for a whole world of strangers to read this but two people sitting next to me is a different story. I guess its just harder because they're reading next to me and I have to see them. Isn't that one of the good things about this? Not getting everyones immediate reactions to what I'm going on about.

Aparently Pink is on the island at the moment. Its rumoured that she will be going to the nightclub tonight but I can't really see why. Even so i'm still not going out tonight. I have to be at work at around 4am tomorrow so its clearly not worth going out based on a rumour. Yes, I am a fan of Pink. Most of you are and just won't admitt it.

The people I work with are really good. Theres a great mix of people and our managers are really good. Margy, and older lady, is like the nan of the bunch. She's constantly reminding me to eat breakfast and its loverly. I'm completely ignoring her though. Free bakery food=FAT. I'll give in eventually but for now i'm staying away for as long as I can. I'm joining the gym on Monday after I go to the mainland to get runners.

Thats all for now.

life update

I'm no longer living like a backpacker.
Found a job on Hamilton Island which is where I have relocated to.
Its pretty sweet here. The job is a baker counter hand, not that exciting but its a job.

I've started missing people a lot now. Mikey told me it gets easier after a month, but I've found it the opposite; I didn't really miss anyone until now. Miss Kelly is leaving for America in less then a month so I won't get to see her until next year. I'm not really fazed about that, I mean yes it will be a lot longer then even we're used to seeing each other but we're really amazing at this whole long distance friendship thing.

I went out on friday night to one of the night clubs herre...
